‘Joyfulness’ ft Alexa Harley is the new single from Hector Plimmer’s second album 'Next To Nothing'. The smouldering track was described for Resident Advisor by Chal Ravens as “A thick soulful laminate...multiple takes melting together like candle wax.”

Hector expands on the origin of ‘Joyfulness’: “We recorded the vocals for ‘Joyfulness’ at Adam Scrimshire’s house. After recording 12 takes of Harley’s vocals I half-jokingly asked Adam to play all the takes together, Harley is so on point that they all layered pretty much perfectly and that is how they stayed. Forget doubling a vocal, Alexa Harley duodecuples!”

Previous single ‘Somebody Else’ ft Andrew Ashong enjoyed a month on BBC 6 Music’s playlist with tracks also supported on radio by Jamz Supernova, Benji B, Moses Boyd and Worldwide FM. Influenced by beat-makers like Flying Lotus and Theo Parrish, but with the subtleties of the classic Metalheadz era drum and bass, his album 'Next To Nothing' was released on 25th October 2019 and featured guests Ego Ella May, Emma-Jean Thackray, Andrew Ashong, Pie Eye Collective and Alexa Harley. The album was covered by tastemaker press including Resident Advisor, Crack Magazine, Hyponik, The Vinyl Factory, Stamp The Wax and i-D.

Hector’s live band is flanked by Dave Koor and Tim Doyle on keys and percussion, with vocalist And Is Phi heading up the quartet. Recent performances have included supporting Nightmares on Wax, Amp Fiddler, Yussef Dayes and Flako. Key festival performances include Glastonbury, The Great Escape and Brainchild. As a composer Hector was selected by Google to test and compose the inaugural piece on their open source AI synth, the ‘N Synth Super’. In February this year, he plays London’s Southbank Centre following a four day residency in the Purcell room during which he and Ben Hayes will be collaborating with AI.
